Learning to tell the time

In week one this term we have been looking learning to tell the time. We looked at what each of the hands on a clock mean. Once we knew that the small hand was for the hour and the big hand was for minutes, we played an interactive guess the time game on the mat looking at o'clock and half past the hour. We finally went to our desks to work on a time cut and paste sheet to reinforce our learning.

PMP

On Tuesday mornings in term 3 Room 15 will be participating PMP (perceptual motor programme).

PMP is a programme of movement that, through planned activities, concentrates on the development of the child’s perceptions of self, their world, as well as time and space and the development of language. It is hoped that PMP will enable children to develop motor skills that assist them with their learning and classroom work, to a point where their skills are automatic.

Here are some photo's from our session in week one. Thanks very much to all our parent helpers for giving us their valuable time.

First of all its great to see some bookings for the mid year 3 way reporting interviews already done but it would be great if those who haven't can get booked in. The interviews are Monday and Tuesday Week 2. Click on this link to sign up:

Friday in week 1 of this term please keep a look out in your child's bag for their mid year report and bring them long to your interview the following week.

Tuesday of Week 2 will be the school photos.

There will be NO SWIMMING for Room 15 this term.

Our Main focus for the term will be the Arts Festival which will take place in the final week of the term. We will keep you posted with details as they develop over the term.

Things to know for the term:

Students will be given a book to read at home each day and can these come back in with your child and their book bag each day please. If you are unable to locate your book bag or reading log new ones can be purchased from the office.

Monday: Students will be bringing home their spelling words for the week.

Tuesday: We will begin our PMP (Perceptual Motor Programme) Students will need to bring suitable footwear they are able to easily take off and put on by themselves.

Thursday: We will be starting our tennis programme. Students will need to wear suitable footwear for playing sport.

Also our Room 15 Library slot has changed from a Tuesday morning to a Thursday afternoon. Can you ensure students only bring back their library books on this day as this will avoid them having heavy bags everyday.

Fridays: Students will be bringing home their poetry books to read over the weekend.

Pyjama Day

What an exciting experience to come to school in our Pyjamas. There was so many different colours and patterns. We started off the day reading a book called the Cats Pyjamas. We also did a fun interactive activity where you had find someone else in the class who had a certain thing on their pyjamas. This was a great way of use some of the detective work we had learnt about this week and there was some great conversations going on between the students.

We also did some writing describing our pyjamas or a recount of our amazing police museum trip from the previous day. After a long hard day what more could you want than relaxing with a nice hot chocolate and marshmallow whilst watching the animated version of Knuffle Bunny (Room 15's favourite book at the moment).
