For Inquiry this term we have been looking at what jobs people do. This has inspired some art and writing about what room 15 want to do when they get older. We had to think what our uniform would look like and create it using coloured paper on our photograph. We then had to say what the job was and why we wanted to do it.

Room 15 Police Officers
As a follow up from yesterdays police detective work, room 15 discussed what a police officers uniform looks like and we made our very own police hat, badge and stop and go sign. This was a great way to get excited for our trip tomorrow to the police museum.
Police Detectives
In week 11 Room 15 and the rest of the rainbow team are lucky to be going on a school trip to the police museum. To introduce the idea of what police do we had a whole class discussion and one of the ideas was a detective. So yesterday we decided to become detectives and look at how unique our fingers are. We used an ink pad and a worksheet to look at our fingerprints and used magnifying glasses to see what type of fingerprint we had.

What an exciting day
Room 15 had a very exciting day, it started off with William bringing in a delicious cake that he had made at home. This was inspired by the book A Great Cake by Tina Matthews. William was able to explain how he had made the cake and what ingredients went into it. At morning tea William was kind to share his cake with all his classmates. It's nice to see all the great learning that is going on at home.
The second reason it was such an exciting day was that Room 15 had their second visit from the voluntary firefighters. They taught the class important fire safety information about what we should do if we were to find matches or a lighter (give them to an adult) and that they need to be stored in a safe place that young children cant reach.
We also learnt about the dangers of candles and how they need to be used responsibly.
They then taught us what do we do if we hear a fire/ smoke alarm. They taught this through the Fire Saftey big book.
don't be scared of the fire alarm
don't hide under the bed
don't grab toys and other belongings.
If you are stuck in a bedroom close the door.
Use windows if they are safe to exit from (discuss your emergency evacuation plan at home)
always have a designated safe meeting place hat all your family know.
Use a phone to call 111
DON'T GO BACK IN! NEVER GO BACK IN

Fire Engine Visit
Today the rainbow team were very lucky to have a visit from the Tawa and Johnsonville fire brigades. Two exciting fire engines arrived at at school at 9am to the excitement of all the students. Room 15 were lucky to have a visit from a fireman who came into our classroom to discuss what a firefighters job is and the equipment they use.
We were then very lucky to get the chance to go and look at the fire engines with the firefighters, they showed us all the different hoses they have on board and some of the other equipment they use in a fire or rescue situation.
After a good look around the vehicle we were then rejoined in our classroom by another one of the firefighters who was in full uniform. The fireman then demonstrated what it looked like and sounded like when he was wearing the oxygen mask. We were also shown the emergency bell on the uniform that lets other firefighters know if one of their colleagues are in trouble.

Swimming Sports Afternoon
Today Room 15 were very lucky to have a fun swimming sports afternoon, we were able to put into practice all the skills that we have learnt over the course of this term and have fun activities and races in the pool. We were lucky to be joined in the pool with our friends from room 14.
We had races:
Blowing balls across the pool whilst swimming.
Balance a cup on our head all the way across the pool.
Swimming lengths showing what we had learnt during the term.
Diving to retrieve rings from the bottom of the pool.
Please enjoy our photos from the day.
