Shape Monsters

As shape has been one of our maths strands for this term, for a fun Friday afternoon activity we made shape monsters. Students had to roll a dice to see what shape they needed to use for each body part. Each monster had to have a body, head, and at least 2 legs and 2 arms. If a student rolled a 1 they had to use a square, 2 a rectangle, 3 a triangle and  4 circle. If the students rolled a 5 or 6 they had free choice of what shape to use. Students then choose to use Jovi's to add other details.

Look at their amazing creations:

Pumpkins

This week Room 15 painted a picture of pumpkins and then used shapes to make cool faces on them.

Tawa Fern for the All Blacks

In support of the up coming Rugby World Cup Final between the All Blacks and Australia, Tawa school had a dress in black day. At 12:00 the whole school came together just in front of the hall and made a giant fern. A picture from above was taken to show how amazing we all looked. Go the All Blacks.

What a busy fun Friday!

Wow what a busy Friday we have had at Tawa School. We got to enjoy two shows in the hall in one day.

The first show was a very energetic show called 'Live @ the library'  which came all the way from Australia and was based on the books by Andy Griffiths. The show was performed by the amazing Stig Wemyss who is a popular narrator of audio books for children and young adults.

The Stig came on like a rock star and got lots of energy into the room. He then went onto play some fun games whilst explaining the role of a narrator and some lucky students were extremely lucky and won prizes. The show finished with Stig reading one of Andy Griffiths books 'Just Crazy'.

The Second show was from the Footsteps company who came in to do a show about our feelings. The presenter came with her friend toys who were able to help us think about our feelings and what they might look like. Room 15 were extra lucky as 4 of our students were able to go up the front and help choose the feelings.

Maths Shape Puzzles

Today during our maths rotation the students worked in teams to solve math shape puzzles. Shape is one of our strands for maths this term and it was great to hear the students using the correct names for the shapes when trying to solve the puzzles.

Maths Games and Clip Construction Stick Building

We have been having fun maths sessions this week using our new maths games. We had fun working in teams learning how to play our new games and using our amazing maths knowledge to try and win each game.

At the end of last term Room 15 were lucky to receive a new set of clip construction sticks, which the student have been learning to use. The imagination and creativity of the class has really shone through and below are a few examples of what has been made.
